Denise Garrett works each day to live her personal mission of doing the right thing. Deeply committed to her family and community, Denise strives to have an impact on the Westfield community through service and volunteerism.
Denise is ready and eager to bring her leadership experience, boundless energy and business savvy to the Westfield Town Council as a candidate for Ward 2. With a commitment to transparency and open communication, she hopes to champion the priorities of all residents with an emphasis on the preservation and development of Westfield’s Downtown. Of particular focus is limiting the risk of overpopulation, while fostering property value growth. She hopes to drive impact through collaboration and partnership, prioritizing Westfield’s traditional, small town atmosphere and values along with fiscal responsibility and accountability.
Denise, 44, and her husband of 19 years, Bill, settled in Westfield 16 years ago as newlyweds with the hope of growing their family in a thriving town with traditional values, intimate atmosphere and deeply-connected sense of community. They are proud parents to 14-year-old Liam, an 8th Grader at Roosevelt Intermediate School, and 11-year-old twins, Bridget and Tobin, who are 5th Graders at Wilson School.
The Garretts are active and passionate members of the Westfield community. Denise is a meaningful contributor to the Wilson School community as a PTO volunteer and class parent. Active parishioners at the Parish Community of St. Helen’s, Denise has been a catechist for several years, teaching Faith Formation for her children’s classes. An avid reader, Denise leads and participates in several book clubs with other moms in town — and proudly completed her goal of reading 52 books during 2020!
Denise and Bill are also deeply involved in the local sports community – Bill as a volunteer for their son’s hockey teams, as a coach for the Westfield Baseball League and PAL Flag Football League. Fitness enthusiasts, the Garretts are members of Nomahegan Swim & Tennis Club and Shackamaxon Country Club, as well as local fitness studios.
Denise has brought her passion for doing what is right to her burgeoning career as a compliance professional at Morgan Stanley & Co., where she is an Executive Director serving as the America’s Head of Infrastructure Compliance leading coverage for the Firm’s Operations Divisions within the Institutional and Wealth Management businesses.
During her nearly 20-year tenure at Morgan Stanley, Denise has been an exemplary steward of the company’s values and behaviors to always do the right thing, lead with exceptional ideas and give back. She has served as a mentor to numerous associates, providing invaluable guidance and insights, working to help them shape and evolve their careers.
Denise began her career at The American Stock Exchange as a Senior Trading Analyst, where she researched and investigated suspicious Options trading activity in cooperation with the Securities Exchange Commission. She maintains active Series 7 & 55 licenses.
A native New Yorker who was raised on Long Island, Denise is a proud alumnus of Siena College (Loudonville, New York) where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She earned a Masters in Business Administration in Business Economics from Pace University Lubin School of Business.
